During a Zoom team meeting about a month ago, the staff at the Jefferson CVB (Visit Jefferson Parish) were brainstorming ways to lift the spirits of our community during the COVID-19 crisis. One of our ideas was to ask our community to share their sidewalk art with us using #JeffersonParishStrong. I posted this request on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter along with a few images our staff had already taken in their own neighborhoods and the response was overwhelming. So incredible that I had to write a blog about it so I could share all of the amazing art. From colorful rainbows to intricate sketches, we were completely blown away. Our team loved seeing the creative and resilient spirit of our community.
Now, I don't claim to know a lot about art, but I do remember reading a quote by Pablo Picasso in college, "The purpose of art is washing the dust of daily life off our souls." I think this is a perfect description of how art can be an outlet during these stressful times, inspiring us and making us smile.
Take a look at the art shared with us over the last month. And THANK YOU so much to everyone who shared! Please continue to share and stay #JeffersonParishStrong!
