Things to Do Outdoors in Jefferson Parish

From adventurous swamp & bayou excursions, to disc golf, kayaking, boating, and fishing, to a relaxing day at the beach, the diverse landscape offers a variety of outdoor fun!

You can fish within minutes of your hotel. Hike the hidden wetlands of the Barataria Preserve of Jean Lafitte National Historical Park and Preserve. Be a Cajun for the day in Jean Lafitte. Or, cast from a charter boat off the bayous of Barataria or the beaches of Grand Isle, home of the Annual International Tarpon Rodeo.

Adventure awaits in the 580-acre Bayou Segnette State Park, a great escape from the hustle and bustle of the city located just minutes away from New Orleans. Nestled on the banks of beautiful Bayou Segnette, the park's extensive grounds comprise one of the most popular state parks in Louisiana. Spend the night along the banks of Bayou Segnette in a floating cabin. Want to catch a beautiful sunset? Talk a stroll along the Bucktown Marsh Boardwalk, a scenic pedestrian promenade over Lake Pontchartrain and its adjacent 3.5-acre man-made Bucktown Marsh, which is part of the eco-tourism destination Bucktown Harbor

Or, perhaps you prefer a night beneath the stars tent camping on the beach at Grand Isle State Park. Bring your RV for a less rustic experience. While there, head over to Elmer's Island beach and see the largest single coastal ecosystem restoration in CPRA history which includes miles of gorgeous white sand beach! Hiking and nature trails abound throughout the parks and are waiting to be explored.
