Historical Home Tour

Destrehan Plantation along the great River Road

Travel back in time and learn about a real Southern plantation. Costumed tour guides will intrigue you with the history and unique architectural features of the era. You will be introduced to the people whose portraits hang in this historic home and to many of the enslaved men and women who built this plantation and made it thrive. Hear their stories.

Tours feature access to The Jefferson Room – featuring an authentic document signed by Thomas Jefferson and James Madison. As well as access to The Herbert J Harvey, Jr. Legacy Room – featuring interactive media and original artifacts and documents from the family members; and access to the 1811 German Coast Uprising, a Slave Revolt Exhibit in the Miller-Haydel Museum.
