Kenner, LA. – A Memorial Day ceremony that includes patriotic music from the U.S. Marine Corps Band will take place at 10 a.m. on Thursday in Veterans Park, next to the City Hall complex at 1801 Williams Blvd.

The guest speaker is Capt. Patrick N. Huete, US. Navy, Commanding Officer Naval Reserve Officers Training Corps, Unit Tulane University.

Huete, a native New Orleanian and graduate of Jesuit High School, has an impressive military history that includes commanding both the USS Black Hawk in the Western Atlantic and the USS Crommelin in Central and South America. He spent time in the U.S. Pacific Fleet and also served on the staff of Commander, U.S. Special Operations Command, as the Western Hemisphere Branch Chief, Current Operations, in the Operations Directorate.

The ceremony will include a special recognition of the 50th anniversary of the Vietnam War.

“I invite everyone to join us for an opportunity to celebrate the lives of soldiers who have made the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom,” Acting Mayor Michael Sigur said.
