JEFFERSON, LA -- Jefferson Parish leadership has received a Notice of Award by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services and the Administration of Children and Families it will be the sole grant award recipient of $34.5 million to continue as the Head Start provider for children ages 3 to 5 years within Jefferson Parish for the next 5 fiscal years (July 1, 2016 through June 30, 2021). 
Additionally, a Birth-to-Five Program will be implemented to begin serving pregnant women, Early Head Start infants and toddlers ages six weeks to 35 months. The program will now be known as the Jefferson Community Action Head Start Birth to Five Program and will be the first of its kind in the parish.

The Jeff CAP Head Start Birth to Five Program will deliver services to 569 Head Start 3-to-5 year olds, 108 Early Head Start infants and toddlers, and 28 pregnant mothers annually. Jeff CAP Head Start’s Birth to Five Program will also employ 191 employees, and leverage an estimated $3 million in Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP) funding to feed nutritionally appropriate meals.
