Around five years ago, on a trip to Austin, owner Colleen Keogh experienced the craft cider boom and was quite impressed. After visiting different cideries while on her trip, she discovered the atmosphere and drinks they offered were like nothing she had ever experienced before.
Colleen believed this style of brewery was something the state of Louisiana was desperately missing, and the process would be one she would enjoy. After attending a week-long workshop in Washington State devoted to cider making, she hastily started work sourcing ingredients and creating different recipes. After holding several taste-testing parties at her home, Colleen was ready to move to a larger scale and tested several of her ciders at 'NOLA On Tap' homebrewing competitions. Having been the lone cider entry at these competitions and receiving complementary feedback, she decided it was time to move forward and create her cidery.
Now, Kingfish is one of the few solely female-owned alcohol makers in the nation and the only cidery in Jefferson Parish. Kingfish is the only place in Louisiana that exclusively makes tantalizing cider and perry (pear cider). Come by for a flight, cider, local brew, or one of their cider cocktails.
